There are a few singers who manage to turn every single individual word they sing into an interesting, atomic little bit of coolness. Loretta Lynn is one of them. I'm not exactly a huge country fan, but this album is just undeniably cool. Between Loretta's unique voice, the personal, old-school country songwriting, and the stripped down, rootsy yet modern treatment of Jack White's production, you've got one of the best records of the year in my book....even if you don't do country.
